Why You Should Make this Air Fryer Salmon with Dijon Cream Sauce
- Quick and Easy: This easy dinner recipe is ready in about 15 minutes, making it perfect for busy weeknights.
- Deliciously Creamy: The Dijon cream sauce adds a rich and tangy flavor that compliments the salmon, beautifully.
- Air Fryer Convenience: Using an air fryer means less mess and perfectly cooked salmon every time.
- Versatile: While air fryer salmon is the star, the Dijon cream sauce works just as well with other proteins like chicken or even pork.
Ingredients
- Salmon: Substitute with other fish like cod, halibut, or even chicken for a different take.
- Seasoning: Use your favorite seasoning blend for salmon.
- Butter: Swap with plant-based butter or ghee for a dairy-free or paleo option.
- Chicken Stock: Vegetable stock or fish stock are suitable alternatives.
- Heavy Whipping Cream: Half-and-half or full-fat coconut milk can be used for a lighter or dairy-free option.
- Dijon Mustard: Whole grain mustard or spicy brown mustard can be substituted for a different flavor.
- Fresh Parsley: Substitute with fresh dill or chives, for a different herb flavor.
How to Make Salmon with Dijon Cream
- Use the preheat function on your air fryer, or preheat to 400°F (200°C) for about 4 minutes.
- Pat the salmon filets dry. Brush with olive oil and add the seasonings.
- Air fry the salmon at 400°F (200°C) for 10-11 minutes.
- While the salmon is cooking, melt the butter and add the garlic to a pan over medium heat. Cook for about a minute.
- Pour in the chicken stock, increase the heat, and simmer until slightly reduced.
- Reduce the heat slightly, whisk in the Dijon mustard and heavy whipping cream.
- Simmer until the sauce thickens.
- When the sauce coats the back of a spoon, stir in the fresh parsley and cracked black pepper.
What If I Don’t Have an Air Fryer?
If you do not have an air fryer, here are two alternative methods to prepare the salmon:
Pan-Searing:
- Sear the salmon in a sauté pan with a tablespoon of heated olive oil.
- Sear for 3-4 minutes on each side until the salmon is cooked through.
- Remove the salmon from the pan and use the same pan to prepare the Dijon cream sauce, allowing the browned bits from the salmon to add extra flavor to the sauce.
Baking:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, depending on the thickness of the filets, until the salmon flakes easily with a fork.
- While the salmon bakes, prepare the Dijon cream sauce on the stovetop following the original instructions.
How to Serve and Store
- Serve With: Pair this air fryer salmon recipe with roasted vegetables, a light salad, or even over a bed of quinoa or rice for a complete meal.
- For a heartier meal, serve this salmon with Dijon cream sauce with homemade mashed potatoes.
- How to Store: Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Reheat gently in the microwave or on the stovetop.

Notes
- Fresh, wild-caught salmon is best. If using frozen, be sure to thaw properly in the fridge.
- Pat the salmon filets dry before brushing with the olive oil and seasoning.
- Always preheat the air fryer to ensure even cooking and the best results.
- If you do not have an air fryer, either pan-sear the salmon on the stovetop or bake in the oven (see post for instructions).
- Adjust the cooking time depending on the thickness of the salmon. The air fry time in this recipe is based on thicker salmon filets. Thinner filets will need slightly less time to air fry.
- Add the minced garlic to the pan as the butter is melting. This will ensure the garlic does not brown or burn.
- Adjust the amount of Dijon to your liking.
- Let the sauce simmer until it coats the back of a spoon for a rich, velvety texture.
- This recipe will make enough Dijon cream sauce for at least four salmon filets.
