Now that I am living in the South, I felt it necessary to create a few Southern Recipes. Naturally, I dove into a recipe for Fried Green Tomatoes with Pimento Cheese. Most recently, a fabulous recipe for Shrimp and Grits! The ultimate in Southern cuisine. I am in love with sweet and savory food. So, it is only fitting that I had to try my hand at a great recipe for Chicken and Waffles.
Admittedly, I do not believe that I have mad skills at making pancakes or waffles. Given this, I love to use local whenever I can. So, I decided to leave that part up to the experts. I journeyed to Cast Iron Waffles and picked up a few of their amazing Belgian waffles to use in my recipe. The waffles are soft on the inside with this sort of sweet, crunchy exterior. These Belgian waffles held up perfectly from the heat of the chicken and the warm syrup. The buttermilk fried chicken recipe is my own and can be found by clicking here! Just be sure to follow my recipe on how to make the crispiest chicken you will ever eat. Take note, I made one adjustment to the original Buttermilk Fried chicken recipe by eliminating the celery seed.
HOW TO MAKE CHICKEN AND WAFFLES
You can definitely chose to make your own waffles. It was just so much easier for me to use a quality waffle made by the experts. Warm the waffles in the oven according to directions.
In a bowl, combine about 1 1/2 to 2 cups of the syrup with a few generous dashes of red pepper flakes. Stir and allow to sit while you prepare the chicken. You can definitely opt out of using the red pepper flakes if you do not like heat. Personally, the addition of the heat really sent this dish to a whole new level of goodness.
Prepare your chicken. I like to allow my chicken to marinate in the buttermilk for at least 15 to 20 minutes, so time everything accordingly.
TO FINISH AND SERVE THE CHICKEN AND WAFFLES
To assemble, place a Belgian waffle on a plate (I did not butter the waffle, but it is definitely an option). Top the waffle with a few pieces of the chicken, drizzle with the spicy syrup (you can heat up the syrup if you like). Garnish with fresh parsley. ENJOY the most amazing Chicken and Waffles!
I would be remiss if I did not also include my recipe here for The Best Fried Chicken Sandwich. Seriously, go check it out. You are not going to believe what it’s topped with.

I am more than just recipes. I love fashion and style too! Most importantly, I love my Family (my Hubby and my Fur Babies). My Husband (aka my “Kitchen Bitch”) means the world to me. He’s pretty damn cool too. Not only is he one of the nicest guys you will ever meet, he also has had a lengthy career in professional hockey. Not only winning two Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins in the early ’90’s, but most recently winning the Calder Cup with the Charlotte Checkers, amongst many other accolades. If you live in Charlotte and play hockey, or have a family member who plays, be sure to contact him!
Our life has changed dramatically in the past few years with the passing of our two goldendoodles, Vegas and Viva. We were lucky enough to have Vegas for five years (totally wish it was longer). Most recently, losing our Viva to a brain tumor in July of 2020. We welcomed our mini goldendoodle 7, almost seven years ago. We just added the amazing Hazel! Of course, I am always posting tons and tons of photos! Be sure to check out my recipe for Pet Bone Broth! This broth is super rich in nutrients and will provide your pet with a multitude of health benefits!

I love the idea of savoury waffles. Thanks for this recipe – it makes a welcome change from just smothering them in cheese to get that savoury hit.
