Why You Should Make Sloppy Joe Nachos

  • Flavorful: Experience the tangy sweetness of sloppy joes, with the crispy satisfaction of nachos.
  • Easy Preparation: Simple steps and common ingredients make this nacho recipe accessible for any cook.
  • Customizable: Add your favorite toppings, or adjust spice levels to suit your taste.
  • Family Favorite: This Sloppy Joe Nachos recipe is perfect for pleasing picky eaters, and satisfying hungry guests alike.

Ingredients

  • Ground Beef: Easily substitute with ground chicken or turkey for a leaner option. Use ground pork or a plant-based ground meat for different flavor profiles.
  • Tortilla Chips: Substitute with whole-grain or baked tortilla chips for a healthier choice. Pita chips or vegetable chips can also be used for a unique twist.
  • Heavy Whipping Cream: Half-and-half or whole milk can be used for a lighter sauce. Coconut cream or cashew cream are good dairy-free options.
  • Shredded Cheddar Cheese: Any melting cheese, like Monterey Jack or mozzarella, can be used. Dairy-free cheese shreds are available for a vegan option.
  • Jarred Sliced Jalapeños: Fresh jalapeños or pickled banana peppers can be substituted. For less heat, use “no heat” jarred jalapeños.

How to Make Sloppy Joe Nachos with Homemade Cheese Sauce

NOTE: The homemade cheese sauce recipe will make more than you will need for the nachos. Use leftover cheese sauce for mac and cheese, baked potatoes, cheese fries or a topping for steamed vegetables.

  1. Start browning the ground beef. Season with salt, pepper and garlic powder.
  2. Once almost fully-cooked, add the minced onion and cook for an additional two minutes.
  3. Stir in ketchup, water, mustard and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well and simmer over medium-low heat.
  4. Meanwhile, prepare the cheese sauce. In a saucepan, melt butter and whisk in flour. Cook for a few minutes to remove the raw flour taste.
  5. Pour in the heavy cream, whisking continuously until slightly thickened.
  6. Add shredded cheddar cheese, a little at a time, stirring until smooth and creamy.
  7. Arrange tortilla chips on a platter. Spoon the sloppy joe mixture evenly over the chips.
  8. Drizzle the warm cheese sauce over the nachos and sprinkle with sliced jalapeños.

How to Serve and Store Sloppy Joe Nachos

  • Serve: Serve these Sloppy Joe Nachos immediately, for optimal enjoyment.

  • Reheat: Reheat the sloppy joe nachos in the oven or microwave, until warmed through.
