Description
This Sloppy Joe Nachos recipe is a delightful twist on traditional nachos, featuring seasoned beef and a rich homemade cheese sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
- 1 bag tortilla chips (Scoops work best)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/4 white onion, minced
- 1/3 cup water
- 2 teaspoons yellow mustard
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
For the Cheese Sauce:
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
- 8-ounces shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup jarred, sliced jalapeños
Instructions
- In a sauté pan, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Season with salt, pepper and garlic powder. Break apart as the meat is browning.
- Once almost fully-cooked, add the minced onion and cook for an additional two minutes.
- Stir in ketchup, water, mustard and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well and simmer over medium-low heat.
- Meanwhile, prepare the cheese sauce. In a saucepan, melt butter and whisk in flour. Cook for a few minutes to remove the raw flour taste.
- Pour in the heavy cream, whisking continuously until slightly thickened.
- Add shredded cheddar cheese, a little at a time, stirring until smooth and creamy.
- Arrange tortilla chips on a platter. Spoon the sloppy joe mixture evenly over the chips.
- Drizzle the warm cheese sauce over the nachos and sprinkle with sliced jalapeños.
- Serve immediately with other garnishes like sour cream, guacamole, avocado and/or salsa.
- ENJOY!
Notes
- Use ground chicken or turkey for a leaner sloppy joe option.
- Allow the sloppy joes to simmer while you prepare the cheese sauce.
- Gradually add in the cheese to avoid clumps.
- If the cheese sauce is too thick, add a touch more cream.
- If substituting whole milk for the cream, reduce the amount by 1/4 cup.
- The cheese sauce makes more than you will need for this recipe. Serve the extra on the side or use for mac and cheese, to top french fries or baked potatoes, or as a cheesy topping for steamed vegetables.
- Scoop tortilla chips work really well in the recipe to hold the sloppy joes and cheese sauce.
- Add additional garnishes to your liking.
- For best results, serve immediately.
