Air Fryer Options

In order to prepare this low-fat chicken wing recipe, you are going to need an air fryer. Personally, I use a smaller one, as there are only two of us in our household. Here is a link to the one I use, along with my recommendation for a larger one:

Benefits of Using an Air Fryer to Make Chicken Wings

  • Healthier Cooking: Air frying chicken wings requires no oil, reducing the overall fat content, compared to frying.
  • Reduced Calorie Intake: By using less oil, air frying can help lower the calorie content of chicken wings, making them a healthier option.
  • Crispy Texture: Despite using no oil, the chicken wings will still have a crispy and crunchy texture, similar to deep-frying.
  • Quick and Convenient: Air fryers cook the wings much faster than traditional methods.
  • Easy Cleanup: Air fryers are typically easy to clean, with removable trays and baskets that can be washed in the sink, or dishwasher.

Ingredients

Feel free to use your favorite homemade or jarred Buffalo wing sauce. For this tasty wing recipe, I combine melted butter and celery seed with Frank’s Buffalo Wing Sauce.

  • Chicken Wings: You can substitute the drumettes and flats with whole wings (adjust cook time).
  • Seasonings: Feel free to adjust the quantities of these seasonings based on personal preference. Additionally, you can use garlic salt or seasoned salt instead of separate salt and garlic powder.
  • Buffalo Wing Sauce: Use your favorite jarred Buffalo wing sauce instead, or try hot sauce for spicier chicken wings.
  • Celery Seed: My secret ingredient! If you don’t have celery seed, you can omit it from the Buffalo sauce.
  • Butter: Whirl is my favorite butter alternative for this no-fuss chicken wing recipe.

How to Prepare Air Fryer Chicken Wings

Here’s how to prepare this quick and easy chicken wing recipe:

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 370°F (190°C).
  2. Place the chicken wings on a cookie sheet and season them on all sides with salt, pepper and garlic powder.
  3. Arrange as many wings as you can in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure they’re not touching.
  4. Air fry at 370°F (190°C) for 10 minutes.
  5. Flip the wings and air fry for another 6 minutes.
  6. For extra crispiness, air fry for an additional 3 minutes, after flipping.
  7. Meanwhile, prepare the tangy Buffalo wing sauce by mixing the melted butter, wing sauce and celery seed in a bowl.
  8. Once the wings are cooked to perfection, toss them in the Buffalo sauce until evenly coated.

Tips to Making the Best Air Fryer Chicken Wings

  • If necessary, ensure the air fryer is preheated before adding wings.
  • Try not to use too much salt when seasoning the chicken wings (both the butter and wing sauce have enough salt).
  • Arrange wings in a single layer to ensure even cooking.
  • Flip wings halfway through cooking for even crispiness.
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure wings reach 165°F (74°C).
  • Coat cooked wings evenly in Buffalo sauce mixture.
  • Enjoy wings immediately for the best taste and texture.
  • Get creative with various sauces for personalized flavor.
  • Replace the buffalo wing sauce with hot sauce for spicier chicken wings.
  • Modify cooking time based on wing size and thickness.

How to Serve and Store Buffalo Chicken Wings

What to Serve With: These delectable Air Fryer Chicken Wings are perfect for serving as a crowd-pleasing appetizer, game day finger food, for tailgate parties, and/or as the main event alongside your favorite sides. Pair them with:

  • celery sticks or carrot sticks
  • ranch and/or blue cheese dressing
  • crispy french fries

Storing Leftovers: If you happen to have any leftovers of these mouthwatering chicken wings, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat the wings in the air fryer for a few minutes until warmed through and crispy.
