  3. Heat the olive oil and one tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  4. Add the flounder filets and sear for 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  5. Wipe the skillet clean. Add three tablespoons of butter. Once melted, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds.

  7. Spoon the lemon butter over the top of the pan seared flounder.
  8. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve with lemon wedges.

How to Serve and Store

  • Serve this flounder with lemon butter sauce with rice, roasted vegetables, or a fresh garden salad. A side of pasta or mashed potatoes also works perfectly.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • Reheat gently in a skillet with a little butter to avoid drying out the fish.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I use frozen flounder? Yes, just be sure to thaw completely and pat dry before seasoning and dredging. Moisture prevents a good sear.
  • Do I have to dredge the fish in flour? The flour helps create a light crust and prevents sticking, but you can skip it for a gluten-free or lighter option.
  • Can I make this ahead of time? It’s best enjoyed fresh, but you can prep the sauce ingredients and have everything ready to cook in minutes.
  • How do I keep the fish from falling apart? Flounder is delicate. Use a thin fish spatula and only flip once during cooking.
