This Ground Beef and Green Bean Stir Fry is a fast, one-pan dinner that delivers bold flavor, with minimal cleanup. Finely diced green beans cook right alongside beef in a savory soy-sesame sauce made with garlic, ginger, oyster sauce, and crushed red pepper flakes.

It’s a versatile recipe that works just as well with ground beef as it does with thinly sliced steak, making it ideal for busy weeknights or easy meal prep.

Why You Will Love This Beef and Green Bean Stir Fry Recipe

  • Quick Weeknight Stir Fry: This beef and green bean stir fry cooks in one pan, and is ready in well under 30 minutes.
  • Savory, Balanced Sauce: Soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger create a rich, umami-forward glaze.
  • Veggies That Blend Right In: Finely diced green beans cook quickly and soak up the sauce, without overpowering the beef.
  • Flexible Protein Options: Use ground beef or thinly sliced steak, depending on what you have.

Ingredient Substitutions

  • Ground Beef: Substitute with thinly sliced steak (sirloin, flank steak, or skirt steak), ground chicken or ground turkey.
  • Soy Sauce: Tamari or coconut aminos are great alternatives.
  • Oyster Sauce: Hoisin sauce, although sweeter, can be used instead.
  • Green Beans: Substitute with snow peas or finely diced zucchini.
  • Fresh Ginger: Use ginger paste if fresh is not available.
  • Crushed Red Pepper Flakes: Omit, or substitute with chili crisp (stir in at the end instead of in the sauce).

How to Prepare Ground Beef and Green Bean Stir Fry

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the ground beef and cook until well browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain excess fat, if needed.
  3. As the ground beef is cooking, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, beef broth, sesame oil, cornstarch, and crushed red pepper flakes in a bowl.
  4. Add the garlic and ginger to the beef. Cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Stir in the finely diced green beans and cook for 3–5 minutes until tender.
  6. Give the sauce a final whisk then add to the skillet. Stir to combine.
  7. Simmer for 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens and evenly coats the beef and green beans.

How to Serve and Store

  • Serve this ground beef and green bean stir fry with steamed white or brown rice, cauliflower rice, in lettuce cups, or over noodles.
  • Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
  • Reheat gently on the stovetop or in the microwave.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I double the sauce? Yes, but do not double the soy sauce or the dish will be too salty. Increase the beef broth and oyster sauce and add a little more cornstarch for thickness, while adding just an additional tablespoon of soy sauce.
  • Can I make this dish spicier? Yes. Increase the crushed red pepper flakes or stir in chili crisp at the end.
  • Do I need to blanch the green beans first? No. Finely dicing the green beans allows them to cook quickly right in the skillet.
  • Is this stir fry recipe gluten-free? Not as written. Use tamari instead of soy sauce and a gluten-free oyster sauce.
