This recipe for Spaghetti with Clams may be my favorite dish of all time! A pasta with clams recipe is so simple to prepare, yet very elegant. Can you spare fifteen minutes? We are going to combine a few fresh and simple ingredients to create one incredible seafood pasta dish!


  • 2 1/2 dozen littleneck clams
  • 3/4 pound spaghetti
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/3 cup white wine
  • 1 1/2 to 2 ladles pasta water
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • zest of one lemon
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped


  1. Start boiling water for the pasta.
  2. Clean the clams per instructions in post.
  3. Once the water is boiling, salt like the sea.
  4. Drop the pasta.
  5. Melt the butter with the olive oil in a deep saucepan.
  6. Add the garlic and crushed red pepper. Cook for just a minute.
  7. Add in the white wine and some of the pasta water. 
  8. Season with just a touch of kosher salt and black pepper.
  9. Allow the sauce to come to a heavy simmer.
  10. Toss in the clams. Cover to steam open.
  11. As the clams open, remove and reserve in a bowl.
  12. Discard any clams that do not open.
  13. Reduce the heat.
  14. Add all of the clams back to the saucepan.
  15. Pour in the lemon juice and zest.
  16. Toss in the pasta directly from the pot.
  17. Add in more pasta water, if needed. (can also use a bit of clam juice in a bottle)
  18. Sprinkle in the fresh parsley and toss gently.
  19. Serve in individual plates, or bowls. 
  20. Be generous with the clams.
