Description

This Italian Chopped Grinder Hoagie with deli meats, provolone, crisp lettuce, and creamy dressing is a quick and easy sandwich recipe.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large hoagie buns, split lengthwise
  • 4 slices hard salami
  • 4 slices soppresata
  • 4 slices mortadella
  • 2 slices deli ham
  • 4 slices capicola
  • 4 slices provolone cheese
  • 2 cups shredded Romaine or iceberg lettuce
  • 1/4 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup jarred, sliced banana peppers
  • 1/8 cup diced pepperoncini
  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons submarine dressing
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • pinch of salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Chop the meat and cheese. Shred the lettuce and thinly slice the red onions. Dice the peppers.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the shredded lettuce, red onion, banana peppers, pepperoncini, mayo, red wine vinegar, submarine dressing, oregano, salt and black pepper. Mix well.
  3. Add the diced meat and cheese to the bowl and toss to fully coat.
  4. Taste. Adjust accordingly with additional amounts of mayo and/or submarine dressing.
  5. Allow to sit for a few minutes to allow the flavors to marry.
  6. Slice the hoagie rolls in half, lengthwise.
  7. Generously fill the rolls with the grinder mixture.
  8. Serve alone, or with a side of potato chips, fries and/or a cup of soup.
  9. ENJOY!

Notes

  • Prepping all of the ingredients before assembling the sandwiches will make for a more efficient process.
  • Feel free to customize the ingredients to your liking. Olives, tomatoes and/or hot sauce are great additions.
  • If you want to control the amount of dressing, prepare in a separate bowl and add to the sandwich ingredients gradually, until you achieve your desired consistency.
  • Be careful not to add too much vinegar/submarine dressing as the mixture will become too watery and cause the bread to become soggy.
  • Once all of the ingredients are combined, adjust the creaminess, if needed.
  • For added texture, toast the rolls.
