Description
This Homemade Cheeseburger Hamburger Helper recipe is a one-pan wonder that’s not only easy to make, but also packed with flavor. While the boxed version may have its place in a pinch, this homemade rendition takes things to a whole new level.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef (80/20)
- 12-ounces Cavatappi or elbow macaroni
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 2 teaspoon paprika
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 2 cups chicken or beef stock
- 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
- 4-ounces Velveeta cheese
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 tablespoons fresh chopped parsley, for garnish
Instructions
- Start by browning the ground beef in a deep saucepan.
- Once fully-cooked, drain all but 2 teaspoons of the fat.
- Season with the salt, black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder and paprika.
- Stir to coat.
- Sprinkle on the flour. Stir and allow the raw flour taste to cook off for a minute or two.
- Turn up the heat and pour in the stock and heavy cream. Mix.
- Bring to a heavy simmer. Add the pasta. Mix.
- Cover. Turn down the heat. Simmer until the pasta cooks to al dente. (About 8 minutes).
- Add in the Velveeta cheese. Allow to melt.
- Sprinkle in the shredded cheddar. Stir to melt.
- If the sauce seems too thick, add a touch more stock or cream. Mix.
- Serve immediately garnished with fresh chopped parsley.
- ENJOY!
Notes
- ground turkey or ground chicken are great substitutes for ground beef
- add additional seasoning to your liking
- add minced onions and/or garlic
- beef stock can be used instead of chicken
- milk is a great substitute for the heavy cream
- cook the pasta just to al dente, as the pasta will continue cooking while incorporating the cheese
- if the sauce seems too thick at any point, add in small amounts of stock or heavy whipping cream
