Description
A perfectly Grilled Tomahawk Steak is a beautiful way to treat yourself and your guests to a mouthwatering, steakhouse-quality meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 tomahawk steak (approximately 2 1/2 pounds)
- 1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 teaspoons salt and pepper blend (or your preferred seasoning)
Instructions
- If possible, allow the tomahawk steak to come to room temperature for about an hour before grilling. This helps the steak sear perfectly and cook more evenly.
- Preheat your grill to 400°F (about 204°C).
- Brush both sides of the steak generously with olive oil. Season it on all sides with a salt and pepper blend, ensuring it’s evenly coated.
- Place the steak on the grill and sear one side for about 4-6 minutes, until a nice crust forms.
- Flip the steak over and sear the other side for another 4-6 minutes, forming a crispy crust on both sides.
- Use tongs to hold the steak by the bone and sear the edges for 1-2 minutes per side.
- Close the grill lid and cook the steak for 2 more minutes on each side for a medium-rare steak. Shorten or lengthen the grill time to achieve your desired level of doneness.
- Remove the steak from the grill and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving.
- ENJOY!
Notes
- Allowing the steak come to room temperature for at least 30 minutes to an hour prior to grilling, will allow for a better sear and more even cook.
- Feel free to use your favorite steak seasoning blend.
- Alternatively, use the reverse searing method (see post for instructions) to grill the tomahawk steak.
- This recipe produces a medium-rare, grilled tomahawk steak. Adjust accordingly, for your desired level of doneness.
- Use leftover steak to prepare steak and eggs, steak tacos, steak salad, or a steak sandwich.
