Description

Caramelized Vidalia Onion Dip made with sweet slow-cooked onions and a creamy base. An easy appetizer perfect for parties and game day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large Vidalia onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced Vidalia onions with 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
  2. Cook the onions, stirring occasionally, until they are soft, golden, and deeply caramelized, about 20–25 minutes. Reduce heat if needed to prevent burning.
  3. Remove from heat and allow the onions to cool slightly. Drain any excess grease on paper towels.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt. Mix until smooth. Taste for salt, and/or additional seasonings.
  5. Stir in the caramelized onions.
  6. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to develop.
  7. Serve chilled or slightly softened at room temperature.
  8. ENJOY!

Notes

  • Take your time caramelizing the onions for the best flavor.
  • Stir the onions occasionally, not constantly.
  • Let the onions sit a bit so they actually develop color.
  • If the onions start to brown too fast, just lower the heat.
  • Once caramelized, drain the onions on paper towels to remove any excess grease.
  • Let the onions cool slightly before mixing into the dip.
  • Chill before serving for the best texture and taste.
  • Adjust seasoning after mixing, if needed.
