Description
A Southern favorite in your very own home. Follow my recipe to create the most perfect Fried Green Tomatoes. Keep it super Southern with a topping of pimento cheese, or pair with your favorite dipping sauce. Be sure to check out other ways to use green tomatoes!

- 3 green tomatoes
- 1 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 to 2 tablespoons Sriracha
- 2 cups AP flour
- 3/4 cup white cornmeal
- 1/4 cup rice flour or cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt, plus
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- oil for frying
Instructions
- Slice the green tomatoes between 1/4″ and 1/2″ thickness.
- Place the sliced tomatoes on paper towels.
- Sprinkle with kosher salt.
- Allow the tomatoes to sit for at least 15 minutes.
- In a bowl, combine the buttermilk and Sriracha (hot sauce).
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, rice flour, kosher salt, and black pepper.
- Heat the oil in a deep cast iron pan to 350° to 375°.
- Drop the tomatoes into the buttermilk mixture. Fully coat.
- Transfer each to the flour mixture. Double coating is encouraged. (see tips in post)
- Fry the green tomatoes, in batches. Do not crowd the pan.
- Brown on both sides.
- Remove and place on paper towels or a cooling rack to remove any excess oil.
- Salt immediately.
- Serve with your favorite dipping sauce and/or pimento cheese.
