• 1 lb. peeled and deveined shrimp (tail on)
  • 1/2 C AP flour
  • kosher salt/pepper
  • 3/4 C milk
  • 2 C panko breadcrumbs
  • canola or peanut oil for frying
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 C Franks Red Hot or Buffalo Wing Sauce
  • 1/2 C whirl
  • 1 to 2 TBLS celery seed

Crispy…crunchy…spicy…all in one perfect bite. A bit tired of the ordinary buffalo chicken wings and dip? Then, this recipe for Buffalo Fried Shrimp is for you. Just perfect for your Super Bowl Party, or any party for that matter! Let’s talk SAUCE. You are going to love, love, love! This will surely become your new favorite Buffalo sauce…you will not find a better one!

If you want to make this recipe even easier and less time consuming, buy frozen breaded shrimp…no need to even thaw. You can serve hot or even at room temperature with blue cheese and/or ranch dressing!

Prepare the sauce. Be sure that all of the ingredients for the sauce are at room temperature. Melt the butter in the microwave. Stir in the whirl, hot sauce and celery seed. If you cannot find whirl, you can just substitute with more butter. Pour into a squeeze bottle and reserve.

Start butterflying your shrimp. Cut down the center of each shrimp, leaving the two ends connected. Pull sides apart to create a flattened shrimp. Repeat with the remaining shrimp. Be sure to leave the tails on. This will make it super easy for frying and eating.

Season shrimp with kosher salt and pepper. Dust shrimp in the flour. Place in milk…fully coat. Shake off any excess milk then coat with the panko breadcrumbs. You may have to press the breadcrumbs onto the shrimp. Lay prepared shrimp on a sheet pan lined with parchment. When all of the shrimp have been breaded, place pan in freezer and allow to set for at least a half hour to an hour. Again…if you want to make this recipe even easier, purchase the butterflied breaded shrimp at your local market. Local to Charlotte? Pick up a pound at The Carolina Meat & Fish Co.!

Just prior to removing the prepared shrimp from the freezer, heat up enough of the oil for a deep fry in a cast iron pan. Once the oil is hot, start frying the shrimp in batches. Try not to overcrowd the pan.

Once browned, removed from oil and place into a bowl. Season immediately with a touch of kosher salt. While hot, coat with the buffalo sauce. Finish frying the remaining shrimp. Serve alone or with blue cheese and/or ranch dressing! ENJOY!
